Launched in 2023, MisTigation is a French research project (ADEME 2022 GRAINE) focusing on miscanthus, a perennial grass native to Asia. The objective of the MisTigation project is to remove several barriers which prevent the implemention of miscanthus in European cropping systems at local community level & at the level of crop operation and varietal selection. 

The goal is to harness micanthus' ecosystem services: Miscanthus is a versatile plant primarily used for non-food purposes like bedding, mulching, and energy production, with emerging applications in bioplastics and insulation. In France, it yields between 8 to 20 tons of dry matter per hectare annually and has a calorific value of 4.13 MWh/ton. Miscanthus also plays a role in bioremediation, stabilizing heavy metals in polluted soils and tolerating marginal conditions such as salinity and flooding. It contributes to air quality by filtering pollutants and prevents soil erosion through its deep root system, enhancing water infiltration and reducing runoff, which helps manage floods.

The BIOFAIR project is a collaboration between the Research Center for Organic Agriculture (FiBL Switzerland & FiBL Europe), INRAE (France), CSIC (Spain), the University of Hohenheim (Germany) and the University of Ghent (Belgium), brought together under the umbrella of the European biodiversa partnership.

The specificity of this project lies in the way in which the impact of climate change on cultivated plants is studied to anticipate which farming practices can prevent negative impacts of climate change on soil health and crop yield. The BIOFAIR project comprehensively addresses the diversity of soil organisms (bacteria, fungi, nematodes, tardigrades, collembolans and mites) and how they link to soil functioning in terms of disease suppression and carbon storage and to plant performance, determined as quality traits of wheat grains, such as vitamin and protein contents and bread and cookie making qualities.

The SEA2LAND project is a 4-year collaborative Innovation Action(IA) funded by the EU in the framework of the Horizon 2020 programme.
